Course description:
This course covers the Lagrangian formulation,
calculus of variations, Hamilton’s principle,
conservation principles and symmetry properties,
the two-body central force problem, the Kepler
problem, and scattering. Also examines orthogonal
transformations, rigid body motion, the inertia tensor,
Euler’s equations, Hamiltonian formulation, and canonical
transformations.
